After one month

Written August 30, 2009

I have been at Baldwin-Wallace for almost a month now as an intern. The first couple of weeks were orientation where a lot of time was spent getting to know the college and my specific role as the intern in the Office of Community Outreach. I really enjoyed my orientation experience because it was a great opportunity to get familiar with Student Affairs in a professional setting. I was able to experience the Student Affairs retreat with the full staff and be part of interesting conversations. I am excited for the continuing experience this upcoming year.

My first task as the OCO intern was leading the “Discover Cleveland” program for 16 incoming freshmen. The service program consisted of three days of service plus two additional days of social activities and getting to know Cleveland. There was a lot to be done in a short period of time, however it was truly rewarding. The 16 freshmen had an absolute blast and built amazing relationships in a short period of time. At the same time it was a great way to get the students to understand service and how they can continue that experience through OCO. I was very happy how successful the program was for my first my experience as the intern.

During the first week of class it was nice to have students back on campus and around the OCO office. It is going to be a great year because I love what I am doing since I am mixing my experience with service and student affairs.
